Description: | Northern States and Canada? Would you like to connect with a classroom from the South Central Texas to compare and contrast the winter weather? During this videoconference opportunity, your class will be matched up with a class from Comal ISD (near San Antonio) for a 30-45 minute videoconference in which both sides will present what winter is like in each region. Afterwards, the students will be able to ask each other questions about the area in which they live. Comal ISD has 11 classes ranging from grades 2-4 that would like to participate in this project. Description: | Hello! We are a 2nd grade class at Augusta Circle Elementary in Greenville, SC. Beginning February 7, 2010, we will be studying different cultural regions in the United States. We are looking for primary classrooms in the Northeast, Midwest, or Western regions of the United States. We would like to share our culture in the South, and learn about your culture, too! We will discuss the following cultural characteristics: 1) Linguistic characteristics and sayings (for example, in the South we say, “Hey, ya’ll!); 2) Cuisine; 3) Clothing typically worn; 4) Music your cultural region is known for; 5) Famous natural landforms or landmarks to visit in your region; 6) Weather and climate 7) Cool things about your history; 8) Natural resources in your region We would like to collaborate antime beginning February 14 through the next few weeks. Grades K-4: Kids Helping Kids in the Gulf Shore
Description:As part of our character education program at Cornwall Elementary School, located in Cornwall, New York, we are looking for an elementary school located in the Gulf Shores whom have been affected by the BP oil spill.
There are many areas of curriculum that we would like to cover such as; civics, science, history, and culture, as part of our character education program. Our school is proud of our Kids Helping Kids program. As a part of our mission this school year we want to make friends and help our new friends out by holding fundraising events to supply your school/classrooms with needed items. This can all begin with friendly letters by handwriting and emailing (if possible). Besides the civic component we also would like to compare/contrast our ecosystem with yours, as well as learn about each other’s cultures. Throughout this project the children would like to visit their new friends via video conferencing, if possible. Our different grade levels would like to start this as soon as possible! We foresee this project running throughout the entire school year.

We would like to also have a Question and Answer period where the students can ask each other about where they live. |
Responsibilities: | Students will each present a piece of our state information. The teachers will guide students in their presentations and help aid questions when needed. |
Agenda: | Teachers will introduce their classes (each group), then teachers will guide the order of the discussion, having students come up and share one site at a time based on the information that we are presenting, state flower, bird, capital, etc. The students will then have time at the end to ask questions to the other class. |
