Columbiana ESC and NCOESC would like to invite third grade classrooms from around the state of Ohio to participate in our “Guess What Town” project.
This project focuses on the geography of Ohio. Via videoconferencing students will present a total of 10 clues based on the themes of geography (on website listed below) about the town in which the school is located.
They will then present them to other Ohio schools. Once all ten clues have been shared then students will try to figure out the location of all the towns they connected with.
This will project will include three videoconferences
* Videoconference 1 (Wed. March 24th)– Introduce each site. Each site
will be named a color to keep it’s identity a secret for instance Blue
Town, Pink Town, etc.. Students will share there first 5 clues
* Videoconference 2 (Wed. April 14th)– Students will re-connect and
share the remaining 5 clues.
* Videoconference 3 (Wed. April 28th) – Students will then “Guess What
Towns” they were connected with.
Dates may be adjusted due to weather. Deadline to sign up is March 18th.
Preperation for Connection
Creative ways to give clues – Students can you use clues on paper and read them aloud, they can show pictures, power points or video clips. The can show three-dimensional objects on the document camera. This is a great opportunity to let students use their creative minds to share information.

Grade K: Celebrating Rhymning Technique of Dr. Seuss
Description: | I am looking for another kindergarten class to share in a celebrating the rhymning technique of Dr. Seuss. Our Kindergarteners have been studying Dr. Seuss the author and reading/listening/viewing some of his stories. We have worked with rhyming words both in the media center and in the classroom. Each class will read and discuss many of Dr. Seuss books and work on rhyming words. **Prior to the VC the teachers will generate enough rhyming pairs/groups of words for the classes. Each student will create a drawing of his/her word. **During the VC students will introduce themselves, then say their word. the partner from the other class will/should recognize their rhyming pair and say, I HAVE A RHYME!! MY WORD IS ______ AND THAT RHYMES WITH ______. This will continue until each student has found their rhyming partner. |

Grades 6-7: EcoConversations: Water Bottles and other topics

Students present their research and the local perspectives and then discuss the issues with the partner class. See the Resources page on the wiki for potential topics. Preparation Time Frame: | Students should understand the different types of communities. I expect sessions to last approx 20 minutes. |
Methods and Activities: | Open to ideas. I would like the students to brainstorm the questions they have for the partner class and have the opportunity for both partners to have their questions answered. We will be using Google Maps to locate the partner school and look at the community's map for a discussion on the similarities and differences to our own community. |
Responsibilities: | STudents will formulate and ask questions. Teachers will facilitate. |
Agenda: | Agenda: 20-30 minutes (depending on class periods of participating classes) 5 min. Welcome and introductions. Each class shares their location and brief information about their school. May share a few pictures of local interest. 15 min. Allow students an opportunity to ask prepared questions, and any additional questions that arise. Discuss similarities and differences of the two communities. 25-40 min. 5 min. Debrief and Conclusion. After the discussion, teachers may wish to debrief and comment on the process and content/curriculum discussed. If time is available, students may enjoy asking each other questions about their respective locations. |

Responsibilities: | Students will read each novel and discuss their similarities and differences in relation to theme, character development and author's purpose. They will prepare to share their understanding with students of the other school. Teachers will share unit activities leading up to the session. |

Grade K: Rhyming A Hunting We Will Go
Description: | Using the book/song "A Hunting We Will Go," my class would like to have a rhyme set up with an animal and somewhere that we put it (rhymes with the animal name). 1.Teacher can read the book so classes are familiar with the rhyme set. 2.There will be 2 participants at a time one will have an animal and the partner class will get 3 guesses to what we put it in. When guessed my participants will then sing, "A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go we'll find a mouse and put him in a house, and then we'll let him go." Meanwhile they will show the props as they sing. I thought our class could do about 7 rhymes and possible partner class would like to participate in the same type of rhyme set. Animals for ex; mouse - house, kitten - mitten, fox - box, frog - log, cat - hat, pig - wig, fish - dish, bug - jug, goat - boat, fly - pie, etc. |
