Grades 7-12: Impact of Climate Change on Global Indigenous Communities

Description:	Join us LIVE through video conferencing, as we examine the narrative of Climate Change through the eyes of Global Indigenous communities. Join us, in real time, as we travel to hear the stories of how communities in the jungles of Brazil and the rainforests of Central America are struggling to deal with deforestation, how hunters in the Arctic are dealing with the melting polar ice cap, and how the coastal communities of Australia and New Zealand are struggling with dying coral reefs and dwindling fish stock. Students will network globally, posting their thoughts and research online through an interactive webpage while being mentored by graduate students and researchers from around the world starting April 28th, culminating in a LIVE video conference/webcast on May 5th, 12:00-19:00 (GMT-7, MDT). Grade 2: Hey ya'll!

Description:	School districts in the Austin, TX region are looking for "northern" friends! The target audience is 2nd grade classes in urban and rural communities that would like to video conference with our students about the similarities and differences in the ways that we live. This could be a one time chat, or a series of conversations.

Outcomes:	Most districts participating are fairly new to distance learning and looking for "friends" to end the school year. We would like for the students to "meet" people all over and have a grasp of places they may visit during summer vacation.
Preparation Time Frame:	Prep time is minimal - a few "ice-breaker" questions/games will be emailed to you
Methods and Activities:	We expect this to be a "town hall" type conference. We are getting together to share cultures, similarities, differences, and basically hear and see one another from different areas of the country.
Agenda:	5 min. Welcome and introductions. Each class shares their location and brief information about their school. Visuals: Use the document camera or PowerPoint to share a few pictures of local interest. 15 - 25 mins (depending on time limits and attention spans) Back and forth communication with ice-breakers.

Grades K-12: Snack Attach

Description:	Students will learn how to make heart-healthy snacks from by cookbook "Snack Attack. Students will be asked to obtain the food ingredients so they can have a hands-on, interactive experience. Each snack can be made in 15 minutes or less. Many snacks can be prepared in under 5 minutes. Students will also learn proper portion size and caloric limits to daily snacks. I will send copies of the recipes so students/teachers can read from them and use them in the future.

Grade 8: HistoryQuest: Civil War

Description:	*Posted with permission* HistoryQuest: Civil War (Grade 8) A couple of our classes were unable to participate in the April 22nd offering and after talking it over with Janine our consortium decided to facilitate a second offering of the program. Please see the event description below. If you and your 8th grade class are interested in participating please contact me by email Hieronymus@esclc.org. This FREE project is designed for 8th grade students studying US History, specifically the Civil War. Through video conference technology, students are able to meet other students while learning about United States history. Prior to the video conference each classroom will create a presentation with clues about a mystery person, event, invention, issue/problem or section from a document. The other classrooms, using maps, the Internet, textbooks, and other resources, will try to discover the history mystery presented by each participating classroom. Students will draw a picture of their most magnificent moment and orally describe the experience to our partner class. The partner class will then make comments and ask questions. Next, the partner class will share their magnificent moments and respond to questions and comments.
