Grades 7-11: Comparing positions on the circumference of the Planet

Description:	We are a girls school in Sydney, Australia and are hoping to connect with a Maths class to do calculations comparing our circumference on the planet. The school would need to be north-south of one another, such as Rockhampton, QLD or another school on the same meridian (ie the same longitude as Sydney). Our Maths teacher wants to link the classes and discuss the activity and then at precisely the same time, both make some outdoor shadow measurements. They would share their information with one another and then be able to perform some calculations leading to determining the circumference of the planet. We have done a worksheet to share for the classes on this.

Grades 8-12: What are you describing?

Description:	Enhance your exchange project by sharing descriptive writing for a purpose. Students will prepare descriptive writing to identify common objects in the classroom. Stories will be read and partner classes will try to identify the object being described.

Agenda:	Agenda: 50 minutes \\r\\n5 min. Welcome and introductions. Each class shares their location and brief information about their school.\\r\\n20-30 min. Reading paragraphs and guessing answers. \\r\\n5-15 min. Question and answer. Students may enjoy asking each other questions about their respective locations and schools.

Grade 3: Carbon Footprinting and the Importance of Global Citizenship

Grades 8-10: Climate change VC and local impacts

Description:	The concepts related to Climate change is embedded in much of our revised science curriculum and to that effect many of our teachers our looking for novel and real experiences to introduce and continue the learning in this area. We have partnered with the Biosphere an Environmental Museum in Montreal Canada which has a mandate to educate on major environmental issues such as air, water, biodiversity, climate change, sustainable development and more. We will be participating in an interactive (state of the art) Video Conference with meteorologists and educators from the Biosphere on the topic of climate change. The goal here is to have a multipoint where two classes participate in the lesson simultaneously. At the end of presentation, they would present local affects of climate change to the partner class, as well as ask questions of the expert. We are running 25 sessions mostly in May and June (but 3 are in April – 13, 20, and 28). This is a great opportunity for two classes to interact with one another. The Biosphere presentation will likely be about 40 minutes, giving 10 minutes for classes to present and 10 minutes for questions. During the presentation, students will be asked to participate by filling in surveys and answering questions.
