Focusing on ethics of Stem Cell Research, in this VC, your students are mentored by graduate students from the University of Alberta, posting their thoughts and observations on an interactive webpage. Students join their fellow High School researchers from across Alberta in a culminating video conference on March 19th.

Description:
I am looking for a language teacher who teaches languages other than English to English speaking students to talk to our Language Department about how you use videoconferencing in your classroom. Videoconferencing is new in our high school of 3000 students and we want to give the teachers a taste of what it looks like and some ideas of how it can be used. We had 2 conferences canceled on us due to snow days already and are looking to connect within the next 2 weeks.

Grade 3: Guess What Town

Columbiana ESC and NCOESC would like to invite third grade classrooms from around the state of Ohio to participate in our “Guess What Town” project.
This project focuses on the geography of Ohio. Via videoconferencing students will present a total of 10 clues based on the themes of geography (on website listed below) about the town in which the school is located.
They will then present them to other Ohio schools. Once all ten clues have been shared then students will try to figure out the location of all the towns they connected with.

This will project will include three videoconferences

* Videoconference 1 (Wed. March 24th)– Introduce each site. Each site
will be named a color to keep it’s identity a secret for instance Blue
Town, Pink Town, etc.. Students will share there first 5 clues
* Videoconference 2 (Wed. April 14th)– Students will re-connect and
share the remaining 5 clues.
* Videoconference 3 (Wed. April 28th) – Students will then “Guess What
Towns” they were connected with.

Dates may be adjusted due to weather. Deadline to sign up is March 18th.

Preperation for Connection
Creative ways to give clues – Students can you use clues on paper and read them aloud, they can show pictures, power points or video clips. The can show three-dimensional objects on the document camera. This is a great opportunity to let students use their creative minds to share information.

Grade K: Celebrating Rhymning Technique of Dr. Seuss


Description: I am looking for another kindergarten class to share in a celebrating the rhymning technique of Dr. Seuss. Our Kindergarteners have been studying Dr. Seuss the author and reading/listening/viewing some of his stories. We have worked with rhyming words both in the media center and in the classroom. Each class will read and discuss many of Dr. Seuss books and work on rhyming words.
**Prior to the VC the teachers will generate enough rhyming pairs/groups of words for the classes.
Each student will create a drawing of his/her word.
**During the VC students will introduce themselves, then say their word. the partner from the other class will/should recognize their rhyming pair and say, I HAVE A RHYME!! MY WORD IS ______ AND THAT RHYMES WITH ______.
This will continue until each student has found their rhyming partner.

Grades 6-7: EcoConversations: Water Bottles and other topics

Description:Middle and high school students connect to discuss current environmental issues and their impact locally. Students present their research and the local perspectives and then discuss the issues with the partner class. See the Resources page on the wiki for potential topics. The preparation page on our wiki has lots of info for preparing your class.

Our class is presenting water bottles. You can present that issue in your area, or you can choose another environmental issue. We have lots of resources on our project wiki page.

We need two partners, so please check the wiki to see if there are still openings.

Grades 2-3: US Communities: Similarities and Differences

Description:We are a suburban community north of New York City looking for 2nd or 3rd grade classes in urban and rural communities that would like to vid. conf with our 2nd grade classes about the similarities and differences in the ways that we live. This could be a one time chat, or a series of conversations.

Outcomes:Grade 2 SS Standards: My Community and Other US Communities. Hoping that our learners can understand how the differences in our types of community, geographic location, weather, etc. influence the ways that we live our lives.
Preparation Time Frame:Students should understand the different types of communities. I expect sessions to last approx 20 minutes.
Methods and Activities:Open to ideas. I would like the students to brainstorm the questions they have for the partner class and have the opportunity for both partners to have their questions answered. We will be using Google Maps to locate the partner school and look at the community's map for a discussion on the similarities and differences to our own community.
Responsibilities:STudents will formulate and ask questions. Teachers will facilitate.
Agenda:Agenda: 20-30 minutes (depending on class periods of participating classes)

5 min. Welcome and introductions. Each class shares their location and brief information about their school.
May share a few pictures of local interest.

15 min. Allow students an opportunity to ask prepared questions, and any additional questions that arise. Discuss similarities and differences of the two communities.

25-40 min.
5 min. Debrief and Conclusion. After the discussion, teachers may wish to debrief and comment on the process and content/curriculum discussed. If time is available, students may enjoy asking each other questions about their respective locations.
