Grades K-12: The Jared Box Project

Description:
Pocono Mountain East High School's School to Work Program would like to share their experiences in participating in the Jared Box Project. Last school year, this special needs classroom, mobilized our entire school district to contribute 757 Jared Boxes to Geisinger Children's Hospitals. The "Extra Inning Club," a community outreach club comprised of the Kings College men's baseball team, assisted with the project in distributing the Jared Boxes and visiting with the hospitalized children.

We challenge you to "pay it forward" and participate in the Jared Box Project in your own community. The life skills students will introduce and present the steps of the project, their teachers discuss the connections made with our school district and a local participating hospital, and the baseball team will share their experiences. We'll wrap up with Q & A and possibly make plans for a follow-up conference in which each participating site would share the results of their project.

Agenda:2 mins Introduction and Instruction
I will introduce the classes and give a quick instruction on the Videoconference

28 minutes Presentation of Clues (5-7 mins each)
We will start the presentation of clues and go in order according to list here: http://esc12presidentquest.wikispaces.com/Particpants
Classes not presenting will take notes for research to be done during the research time.
We recommend splitting classes into teams to work on each Presidential guess to maximize time.

20 minutes Research time!
Students will use the notes they have taken during the clues portion of the VC and research using either the Internet, textbooks or other resources available to come up with a guess for each class President.
Classes will then vote to see which President they think it may be (raising hands will be the quickest way).
Have a designated student to state your classes answers.

10 minutes Final Guesses given and goodbyes
We will conclude by going around to each class and the class giving ALL of their guesses for each class.
Congratulations and goodbye!

times are maximum and could be less than listed.

Grades K-12: Student Projects from Texas

Description:Several schools in Region 14 Education Service Center in Abilene, Texas have entered the Kids Creating Community Content (KC3) virtual field trip contest. http://kc3.cilc.org/

In preparation for the contest, the schools are seeking sites that might want to receive a program. All the programs are ‘FREE’. We are just looking for sites to practice our programs with. We have all kinds of topics including but not limited to: Native American Indians, Buffalo Hunting, Horse Back Riding, Wind Energy, Spider Rock Treasure, Wild Hogs, Cotton, Wheat, Stagecoaches, Ghost Towns, Mammoths, Peanuts, B1 Bombers, 6 man football, Blood Typing, etc. Most are geared for elementary audiences but a couple are for MS/HS students. Some of the programs will have websites where the requesting teacher can access ‘pre-conference’ activities for their students but at this stage, not all of the schools have built their websites yet.

To see a list of available programs, please go to: http://www.esc14.net/default.aspx?name=KC3Practice
My schools can dial direct to you or you can dial into to them. Dialing in instructions are also posted on the website.

To request a program, simply email the teacher from the originating school and set up a date and time. We are in Central Standard Time so when confirming a time for the program – be sure to consider any differences in time zones. Depending upon the number of questions asked, the programs will run 30 to 45 minutes.

If you have any questions – please do not hesitate to contact Tommy Bearden at bearden@esc14.net better yet – ring me on video at 12.68.216.113

Note: These programs are not really collaborative projects - we are not expecting a program in return. We are just seeking receiving audiences to practice our programs before the contest. Preferred connections will be to sites outside of Texas.
Dates:Most programs will be ready between February 1 and mid March
