Objective of Collaboration Intermediate English Language Learners in Medford, Oregon are studying BIRDS that live in our area or stop here during migration. We would love to compare our local bird species with those of other regions. We might even share some migratory species.
Our students are all doing reports on birds from our area, so we could take turns presenting with partners from another area. We're also videotaping some of our local birds.
Our course work is in English, but most of my students understand Spanish, so international exchange is possible.

Grade 5: Civil War Collaboration

Objective of Collaboration The 5th grade teachers (14) at Paine Intermediate School in Trussville, Alabama are looking for partner classes to communicate during their learning of the Civil War through writing historical journal entries using blogs or e-mail and Skype/video conference in April. At the end of their study, we would like to Skype/ video conference where the students take on the personality of famous people during the Civil War to discuss their thoughts, ideas, etc. or just discuss their understanding of the causes, events, feeling of the Civil War. We are especially looking to collaborate with students in the northern states.

Grades K-1: Pets and Letter Sounds

Objective of Collaboration All students will participate in a letter sounds song, using the sign language alphabet (we will show signs during the song so students can follow along)

Students will then do a letter sounds activity.
Example: Teacher says, "Hold up the letter that says "ba." All students with this letter will hold it up. We will do this for each of the letters in BINGO.

Students will then all participate in the singing of the song "Bingo."

Closing: 1-2 students from each class will share about their pets at home (visuals of pets are more than welcome but not required)

Materials Needed:
1. Letter cards (one per child with the letter B, I, N, G, or O)
2, One or two students willing to share about their own pet.

# of students on our end: 36, 2 classes working as one.

Dates for Video Conference:
This needs to take place during our Pets Theme so so any of the following days would be perfect: March 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 11, or 16

Objective of Collaboration I would like to collaborate with another classroom in a rural area in the United States, preferably K-3. My Pre-K class will be learning about Farms and what life is like on them around March 20, I am interested in the collaborative classroom talking to my students about what it is like living on a farm (if any students should happen to live on one). Also, part of the video conference could even be comparing differences between rural and urban areas using pictures and a document camera. Thank you for your interest and I hope we can work together to make this a great learning experience for both of our classes!
