Gr 1 Celebrate Reading!

I have 2 first-grade classrooms in Michigan that didn't get a chance to make a Read Around the Planet connection, and would love to connect to other first-grade classrooms to celebrate reading with books, writing, poetry, music, or something else!

For examples of possible connection sharing, see the Read Around the Planet website (http://www.twice.cc/read/)

Dates: ONLY 4 dates available at 1:00 pm EST - April 17th, April 24th, May 1st, and May 8th

Audience:Grade 1

Sign up method:Exploding Collaboration (Registration is through CAPSpace at http://projects.twice.cc

Outcomes:We expect learners in all classrooms to practice speaking and presenting to their peers, as well as share something they've either written, or a piece of writing they love in some creative way.Preparation Time Frame:You will need to connect and converse with our teachers prior to the connection to prepare your presentation and a 30-45 minute videoconference. Methods and Activities:Poetry, skits, reader's theater, presentations, etc. are all welcome for this connection. See the Read Around the Planet website for other suggestions.Responsibilities:Teachers will introduce classes to one another, and students will then present, with each classroom taking turns. A brief Q and A at the end of the sharing is encouraged.Agenda:5 min. Welcome and introductions. Each class shares their location and brief information about their school.
Visuals: Use the document camera or PowerPoint to share a few pictures of local interest.

30 min. Presentations. Each class shares a 15 minute demonstration and/or presentation on the assigned topic. Teachers should negotiate who will cover what to prevent duplication.
Visuals: Can be a live scientific experiment demonstration, iMovie of the experiment, or PowerPoint with digital pictures of the experiment/concept, posters with large letters.

15 min. Question and answer. Each class has prepared questions for the other on the content and generates questions while/after listening to the presentation. After the content questions, if time remains, students may enjoy asking each other questions about their respective locations and schools.
