Gr 4-6 Global Student Awareness: Joseph Kony

Seeking 4th-8th grade classes to discuss violent crimes committed against children especially the transgressions of Joseph Kony of Uganda, Africa.

Students should preview this 30 minute YouTube video prior to the conference to acquire needed background knowledge:

We would like students to be able to respond critically to a newsworthy current event by relating text to self. Our students will be developing persuasive posters to expand public awareness. Moreover, they will be drafting persuasive letters to government officials. Participating classes are welcome to share their most insightful persuasive letters and posters.

In addition, Mathematics can be incorporated into the lesson by calculating the volume of children impacted over the years by this tragedy
